For the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing weddings, families, and some of life’s biggest milestones throughout eastern Kentucky and beyond.
When I first started, I thought great photography was about getting everything just right: the perfect light, the perfect pose, the perfect settings. A decade behind the camera, and 42 years of living life, have taught me something different.
The photos that matter most are the ones that make you feel something.
The way he looked at you on your wedding day. Your toddler’s arms wrapped around your neck. Your grandma wiping a tear as her baby gives you away. The belly laughs, quiet hugs, and little personalities. The people you love exactly as they are in this season of life.
Life has taught me to notice those things a little more closely. If I can be fully transparent for a moment, losing my own dad especially changed the way I see photographs, because I know something that feels ordinary today can become absolutely priceless one day. It’s made me pay closer attention to the moments in between, the ones we don’t always realize we’ll miss.
